Buzz is already around that google is going to change the way Search Engine Optimization works. It will no more be limited to keywords, links and tags. It will be content and relevance. Google has transformed SEO into a brand building tool. The emphasis is on serving answers to search queries and not webpages. Here are few tips not to fall into the most common pitfalls in getting your SEO right.
Relevant homepage content
It is important to make your website visually rich and appealing. But what your customers (and even search engines who drives them to your site) need is informative content about your business; what are your core offerings, services and what consumer pain points are you here to solve. Your customers need information more than aesthetic creative.
Information on every page
Every business has a strategy in place to drive users to specific pages on website. Have relevant and key content on each page. Focus on the content strategy for the pages that are yielding better results. Today’s fast moving customers want information in quick-bites. Cater to this customer needs and google starts appreciating you with higher SERP ranking.
Do not bombard with keywords
Listing all of your focus keywords in the same page and repeating multiple times doesn’t yield you results. That’s one of the oldest tactics that google hates and has outsmarted. Listing all the cities you serve at is not the recommended way to get listed for searches from all those locations. Geo-location search result has more to it. It is about getting your title tag, H1 heading, content, alt text and everything on the page optimized for a particular location.
Play smart with title tags
Title tags are generally 500 pixels wide. Smartly craft your title tags with the focus keyword appearing at the beginning and business name at the end. Making title tags a bunch of the keywords you are trying to optimize for doesn’t really optimize your site.
Avoid duplicate content
Having same content on multiple pages of your website doesn’t just confuse your visitors, it confuses search engines too. This may result in abandoning your pages from being listed on search as the search engine will not know which of these pages to index.
After reading this post, if you are thinking about making a content marketer part of your SEO team, kudos to you. You have got the strategy right!
